I have been buying and selling comics since 1971, when I was 11 years old. So in one way or another, have been involved in comic book trade for over 45 years.
In the late 1980s through early 1990s, after Microsoft made desktop publishing common, many independent comic book companies popped up. The market became flooded, and values dropped quite a bit. Store owners went out of business, and the books were everywhere. An opportunity arose for me in 2001 to buy a comic book store. I felt that everything moves in cycles, and the value of the books would eventually return. (The movies getting better have helped :) More opportunities to purchase books increased and before long I was actively searching for books.
Around the same time, the rise of the internet presented an opportunity to unload some of the comic books, and it became profitable.
We branded MissouriComics.com online and changed the shop name to Missouri Comics and Records in 2001. Around 2005 we added vinyl records to our product line. Now with over hundreds of thousands of internet transactions we have grown to our peak. We moved to a large building in Springfield Missouri in 2001, which provided a physical and online warehouse store feeling for shoppers to buy, sell, trade comic books and vinyl records.
In 2015, we sold all of our records, and moved the comic warehouse to Safety Harbor, Florida. We still have around 400,000 comic books in stock.
Our goal is to remain a small controlled business and provide the best possible level of customer service and satisfaction for every individual order. When a business grows too large, things fall through the cracks. As MissouriComics.com, we want to provide the best level of service possible. We want our customers to be satisfied with every transaction. This is our mission.
So come, join us. Buy, sell, trade, and enjoy.
